The change of medical care utilization behaviors through health education and counselling

Abstract
National health insurance cooperation has reported that, during the year 2001, outpatients who received treatments repeatedly at one medical institutions amounted to 6,7 million persons and outpatients who received treatments from more than three medical institutions was about 95,000 persons. It can be very important theme to reduce and manage effectively such frequently examined subjects, who have undesirable behaviors of medical care utilization, not only for health care but also for the management of national medical expense.
Therefore, this study aimed to prepare the basic material necessary for contributing to the subscriber"s health maintenance/enhancement and the financial stability of health insurance by providing the proper support service for rational medical care utilization after the interviews, and analyzing the change of medical care utilization behaviors and the financial saving effect though interviews.
This study was carried out on total 392 persons. The 392 persons are consisted of 195 persons of test group who had received the rational medical care utilization support service through 1st, 2nd and 3rd interviews and 197 persons of control group who had not among the 3,052 persons. This study encoded the data gathered and carried out frequency Analysis, ¥ö©÷ -test, t-test using SPSS v 12.0 statistics program. Followings are the analysis.
From research result, it was reported that the medical service utilization behaviors after the rational medical care utilization support service produced a positive outcome in total allowance, outpatient allowance, hospital visiting days and pharmacy medication days, but only the hospital visiting days had a statistical significance(p£¾0.000). However, as a result of research hypothesis testing, the gaps of annual total allowance, annual hospital visiting days and annual pharmacy medication days between test group and control group was determined to be meaningless.
